Fall 2023
Neuroscience and society (neuroX) fields—such as neuroethics, neurolaw, neuroeconomics, neuromarketing, educational neuroscience (and more!)—are rapidly emerging. Given the novelty of these fields, navigating career paths and training opportunities in neuroscience and society can be challenging. With support from the Dana Foundation, these events offered an introduction to these fields, with an emphasis on how you might forge a career in them. The events introduced resources from the Dana Foundation Career Network in Neuroscience and Society. These sessions were run as a small group conversation for students, recent grads, post-docs, and those seeking midcareer transitions. Led by Harvard professor Francis Shen, the discussion explored questions such as: What is “neuroscience and society” and how can you make a career out of it? What type of career can you imagine yourself pursuing at the intersection of neuroscience and society? What type of education do you need for these interdisciplinary careers? What are some of the barriers you are encountering as you explore these career options? What don’t you know that you want to know about careers in neuroscience and society? The main event ran from 7-8 pm ET. Immediately after the main event, attendees could stick around for small group mentoring with Dr. Shen.
