Event Description: Join us for a discussion with Sheena Posey Norris, senior program officer with the Board on Health Sciences Policy and director of the Forum on Neuroscience and Nervous System Disorders at the National Academies of Science, Engineering. This 1-hour virtual event will feature discussion of careers at the intersection of neuroscience, public policy, ethics, and stakeholder engagement. The Forum on Neuroscience and Nervous System Disorders brings together leaders from government, industry, academia, and disease advocacy organizations to examine significant—and sometimes contentious—issues concerning scientific needs and opportunities, priority setting, and policies related to neuroscience and nervous system disorders research.

Sheena M. Posey Norris, M.S., PMP

Sheena M. Posey Norris, M.S., PMP, is a Senior Program Officer on the Board on Health Sciences Policy at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Health and Medicine Division. In this capacity, she serves as the Director of the Forum on Neuroscience and Nervous System Disorders, Ms. Posey Norris has led numerous projects in the areas of basic, translational, and clinical neuroscience; substance use disorders, global mental health; bioethics; training and workforce development; and biodetection. She is committed to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in her work and is passionate about mentorship as a catalyst for empowering individuals from diverse backgrounds to thrive and succeed, for which she was the recipient of the National Academies’ Health and Medicine’s Division’s Best Mentor (2020) and Great Supervisor (2023) awards.

Prior to joining the National Academies, she worked in the Graduate School of Nursing at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. Working alongside advanced practice nurse researchers, she conducted research focusing on health promoting behaviors of military spouses. Ms. Posey Norris received her M.S. from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in Experimental Psychology with an emphasis in neuropsychology. Her thesis-driven research focused on the neurocognitive and balance effects of multiple concussions in young adults. Ms. Posey Norris graduated from Lynchburg College in Virginia with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Spanish. She is a devoted wife and proud mother to two little boys, whose boundless energy and unwavering support continually inspires her to reach greater heights in all facets of life.
